My Name is Aria J Kitchener (aj).

I am of Bundjalung, Wiradjuri and Italian Nations.

Aria Kitchener is an indigenous Bush Ranger and Graphic storyteller based on his ancestor's country of Bundjalung. He is always looking to learn how to document the ecological and cultural stories of this country's diverse landscapes and people, through creative and educational storytelling. AJ is a dedicated artist passionate about making the complexities of indigenous history, sciences, anthropology, and culture of country more accessible to the general community through creative storytelling and educational resources. His home of Wollumbin valley and its sunbaked community inspires his creative work and love for all things nature. With a demonstrated track record in collaborative freelancing, multimedia projects, Writers rooms, animation and in field indigenous land management practices, Aria is committed to delivering compelling narratives, greatly valuing the scientific research process for accurately presenting the main issues his creative art portrays.

Future endeavors

In the near future Aria aims on becoming a certified Indigenous Anthropologist for both of his countries, Wiradjuri and Bundjalung. Artistically and scientifically documenting their diverse country bio-regions. Bringing together this educational knowledge with creative storytelling in the form of an animated series about Listening to Country, as well as supporting other indigenous cultural storytellers.

What Do I Do?

creative industry

Their main areas of focus in the creative industry include: Script writing for television series, note taking, Graphic storytelling through Animation, Illustration and Comic’s. In 2024, Aria was selected for a Writing for TV Intensive program with Nicole Dade . That same year, his politically charged artwork, Born to Revolt, was featured in two key exhibitions: the 2024 Wollumbin Art Award Finalists Exhibition and as the winning piece at the 2024 Koori Mail Youth Art Award. Later in May 2025, he was selected for the Seeding Storytellers program through Screenwork's and the Australian Writers’ Guild. This intensive program provided training in notetaking, script coordinating, and the fundamentals of a writers’ room through continuous online workshops led by industry experts Sara Khan and Terence McCarthy.

Indigenous science industry

Aria is active in the Environmental Science and Cultural Education Industry as an Indigenous bush ranger and ecosystem regenerator. After completing their Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem management, they have gone on to do a On Country management III/ Indigenous rangers' course, the first of its kind for Tafe NSW. Factual Scientific documentation is a vital part of his cultural and environmental storytelling. This year Aria has worked blending both of his industry knowledge through educational resources. In early 2025 he worked in collaboration with Isaac Regional Council as well as Kuril & Currawong Ecology creating resources for the ST LAWRENCE WETLANDS 2025 Festival Project. Later this year he collaborated with his Bundjalung language group elders to bring illustrated Language resources to local mobs trying to reconnect with their language again. AJ has also earned his National Firefighting ticket, partaking in Local Indigenous cultural Burns on Bundjalung country.
