Synopsis

Four local mob, at various disappointing stages of life, are thrown into the Community Correctional system to repay their societal debts through hard yakka.
As they dig deeper into Country, ancient and wrathful systems reemerges from burnt country, seeking punishment. Tormented by Wiradjuri Gawu-gawu* and trapped inside a bureaucratic hellhole, they are forced to reconcile with the crimes against Country that their society runs on.

Their present-day sentence unfolds alongside fragments of past resistance: the scattered reminiscence of a missing Indigenous ranger; a privately hired archaeologist spiralling into madness; rumours of a deceitful medicine man suspended between life and death; and an unnamed Black woman, deemed an outlaw, who once used her dying culture to outwit her uninvited colonisers.

Like the revolutionaries before them, the four workers come to understand that listening to Country cannot happen clean of crime, and strange moral challenges.

Creation Process

these 7 comics took an entire year of active development to
be produced. Overgrown was and still is constantly developing,
by the time I was finished sadly these comics were already
outdated. The temptation of reworking the comics was holding
alot of the progress back.

Overgrown Animated

Overgrown Animated is a long run animated project that has helped me develop animatable
character designs and put a fun test on my animation and editing skills. Although its both rough
and aged animation, it is the foundation of what my animated storytelling is today!

production notes:

this project was animated twice! I lost the first almost complete animation
after the 2022 floods after my computers motherboard fried itself. This was a
real tough time for me to recomplete, Although I am proud of its overdue
compleasion, it was rushed and became more of a toonboom style exploration,
rendering its style consistency weak as all hell.
